George Thorogood, for dictation; writing, to John Shaw, 10 years of age; Thomas Danks, 11 years of age; Australasian geography, George Thorogood ; arithmetic, James Dempsey ; general proficiency and good conduct, Wm, Abraham, Sidney Crombie, Herbert Tremain, Walter Neumegen, Master Constable, "Wm. Aggers, and W. Trevena. A reading, competition between eight boys followed, with exercises in various kinds of literature ; Messrs Ewington and Blackmail being the ajudicators. A small lad named George Smith was the most successful reader, and took the prize. The boys, however, with the exception of two, read with precision and effect. The boys generally shewed that they had been subjected to a great deal of close training, and especially in arithmetic and writing, which studies are invaluable in every case. At the close of the examinations, Mr Ewington delivered an address to the boys on the importance of little things in relation to success. Mr Blackmail spoke on small failures as incentives rather than discouragements in the way of life. Mr Andrew also delivered an address in a similar strain, and the meeting closed with votes of thanks and

cheers.
