Before starting, Princess Mary bolted and went the distance berore being pulled up, but ranged up for another start. In the first quarter of a mile Voltaire threw his rider, who seemed to be about to rise off the ground when, to all appearances, one of the other horses trod upon him, and he was carried off the course. Princess Mary cut out the running leading Phoenix and Cocksure six or seven lengths. Haphazard was behind from first and had no show. Upon nearing the straight Cocksure overhauled Princess easily followed by Phce nix, and then led both at the straight by several lengths, and won by eight lengths. Phoenix, second ; Princess, third. Doctor Diver attended to the boy who, it turns out, had his thigh broken. The Wellington Derby resulted: —Mr Redwood's Korari, Bst lOlbs, 1 ; Mr Dalamaine's Pungawerewere, Bat 51bs, 2 ; Mr P. Campbell's Danial O'Korke, Bat lOlbs, 3 ; Mr O'Brien's Fishhook (late Lough Neagh), 4. Daniel O'ftorke cut down Pugawerewere, and made a desperate effort to overhaul Korari; and though he was whipped all the way up the straigbt, Korari won as he liked, hands down, seven lengths a-head.
