Mr Macandrew Retired.
Mr Macandrew has retired from the candidature for Port Chalmers after pledging himself to fctand at the recent meeting. This has created a revulsion of feeling. Tne Port folks are indignant and hostile, and resolved to retnrn an opponent of Mr Macandrew's party. His deflection lost him many friends. [So the Preas Agency says, but we shall see.]
The Ship Timaru. ' ' The ship Timaru, the first of the season, sailed for London this afternoon, takine 23 passengers. The cargo is valued at £118,800. The Elizabeth Graham is next in turn and is fast filling up. "Very little wool is being dumped this year.
The Damage to the TairoaThe steamer Tairoa was docked to-day. The hurts are less serious than anticipated. She is heavily plated and extra strong, and so withstood the severe ordeal she went through. The hull is holed in four places, but will be easily repaired.
