INQUEST.—This Day.

An inquest was held this afternoon at two o'clock at the Provincial Hospital before Dr. Goldsbro', coroner, and a jury, on the body of Robert Carrington, a seaman on board the barque Tien Tsin, who died yesterday evening from injuries received thereon. Mr Poppleton was chosen foreman.! Peter Mcßobbie, chief mate, deposed that he waa superintending the crew of the barque at the time of ihe accident, in Auckland harbour; he had known the deceased five days. He was an ordinary seaman. At 7.30 a.in. he fient the men up. the gallant mainsail, deceased was sent aloft to keep it clear • when the sail got as high as the mainyard, be called up "hold on" until he pot high up. They did so. He was bearing off with both hands when the bunt line parted, and he fell touching nothing, upon the main deck ; he fell on his hands and knees and his head struck the deck ; he picked him up, he breathed heavily but was unable to speak ; he appeared insensible. The captain went immediately for Dr. Dawson, who came and advised hi> removal to the hospital. The captain got a cab and accompanied him. He saw him no more alive. There were three. men pulling the rope. There must have been a' weak' part in it,, or it would not have carried away. The man was quite sober. ! Samuel Greßham deposed that he was one of "the men who %otted -the-rope, whe^ deceased fell from aloft. He was a fellow

passenger in the Dilharee from England. He was a steady man. Captain Taylor gave evidence as to his procuring a conveyance, and assisting the deceased to the Hospital. Dr. Philson gave evidence as to the nature of the wounds. The jury, having briefly considered theevidence, returned a verdict of " accidental death."
