GRAHAMSTOWN.
[From our own Correspondent.] This day.
New Rush to Tapu. The rush to Ward's, Tapu, of which rumours prevailed last night, created considerable sensation to-day, and numerous parties went to bhe ground to-day. It appears that McDowell and Eobinson, a prospecting party, picked up a lump of rock about eighteen inches cube, recently broken off by horses or bullocks grazing, and they broke up the stone and found specimens in it, and prospects in the rock which is composed of decomposed quartz. The locality is about a mile beyond Waiomo in the face of a spur running up through Holdship's bush. The piece broken off only fell about 5 feet, and the fracture is easily discovered. The area of abont ten acres is taken up and two other areas were pegged off this morning by Hennelly and White and other parties are now pegging. Nothing in the shape of a definite reef is yet shewn ; it is merely a surface outcrop. Boiler Explosion. The Pumping Association is working the shaft to-day with the aid of the small auxiliary boilers, while others are undergoing examination by the Government Inpector. The Government Boiler Inspector is carrying out his instructions rigorously and faithfully. He compels repairs or reduces the pressure. He is evidently fully competent, and will [prevent accidents from boiler explosions. The Cure Company.
The Cure Company is getting a nice show of gold to-day.
Dixon's No. 1.
Dixon's No: 1 is following|a leader in the bottom level through its own ground towards the main reef. Gold is shown, but the lode is scarcely of sufficient importance to work by itself until it forms a junction with the main reef.
The Crown Princess cut Fo. 2 reef last night, and about six pounds of picked stone were taken out.
