ELLERSLIE GARDEN'S.

TnR variety of amusements provided at this favourite holiday resort oq Saturday induced the presence of a large number of spectators, more thau twice as many sixpences being received at the entrance gate as on the Saturday previous. The cricket match between the Auckland and North Shore Clubs was the central attraction, but the pedestianism, which we believe is to he a regular Saturdayafternoon di3h here, afforded plenty of sport. The following are some particulars which arrived by our carrier pigeons and other channels too late for insertion in Saturday's issue. When the Btumpa were drawn, the North Shore men had left their mark to the following extent : — NORTH SHORE CX-ÜB. Burges3, b Cotton 0 Ryan, b Buckland 5 Kees, b Jackson ... ... ... ... 14 Nolan, b Buckland 0 Swanson, not out ... ... ... ... 9 Dacre, not out ... ... ... ... 10 Byes 17, wides 5 ... 22 Total 60 In the quarter-of-a-mile race O'Hare shewed fine Bpeed for three-quarters of the distance, while the winner, Donovan, 1 y well back till reaching the run home. He then put it on, and coming away hand over hand, at the finish won easily by five yards. Two other races were got up subsequently, these were 150 yds. handicap, for which three started, with the following result: McDonald, 12 yards start, 1 ; Kerr, 9 yards start, 2. A good race won by Wo yards. One mile race, three starters, McMillan, 1 ; Fagan, 2 ; Kelly, 3. The issue of this was in doubt to the last turn. Kelly spurted away at the start, and held a long lead at half distance. The other two, who had kept side by side, then closed on the leader rapidly, catching and passing him about 200 yards from home. McMillan won at the finish by 8 yards. Time, 5 mm. 25 sees.

The cricket match is to be played out next Saturday. The refreshment department is being capitally administered by Mr James, and visitors receive every attention. Mr Brown, the manager, is unfailing in his endeavours to make the gardens atcractive.
