THE LATE FATAL ACCIDENT.— INQUEST.
An inquest was held to-day, before Dr Philson, Coroner, at two o'clock, at the residence of Mr Walter Graham, Bemnera, on the body of Mr George Graham, who met his death under circumstances detailed yesterday. Mrs Graham's evidence was to the effect that the deceased gentleman, her husband, had been to one of the out-houses in the yard, yesterday forenoon. Sho went out to see where he was, and observed him walking across the yard. She proceeded towards the house, and on looking round saw him lift up the well lid and instantly fall in. She screamed for help, and Mr Sutton, who lives in a house adjoining, ran in and gave assistance, and also to procure other aid. The water was low at the time, about 25 feet from the surface. Only a few minutes elapsed before he was extricated. He had been suffering for some few days from pain and giddiness in the head. That morning he was in his usual health. He was only staying at Remuera temporarily, and hoped to return in a few days to town.
Mr Sutton and Dr Stockwell gave corroborative evidence. When the doctor arrived Mr Graham was quite dead. The?jury after a short consultation returned a verdict of accidental death.
