NEW STYLE OF BUGGY.
Wk have this morning inspected & new style of bugeiy on an entirely new principle, manufactured by Messrs Cousins and Atkin, carriage builders, which will be exhibited on Mottday next &i the Agricultural Society's exhibition at Ellerslie. There has been much dissatisfaction expressed by persons for a considerable time past on account of the perchbolt, which frequently caused greabinconveni. ence and even danger by getting loose and breaking These frequent complaints set Messrs Cousins ftnd AtkiuS thinking as to how this serious defect could be permanently remedied. At length, some months back, one of the partners caught an idea from a plan sketched by Dr. Purchas, and resolved in order to remove the existing difficulty to manufacture a wheel plato without a perch bolt, the bottom wheel plata to be entirely concealed ; and that Messrs Cousins and Atkin have succeeded in realising their idea there can be no doubt in the mind even of the moat ordinary observer who will take the trouble to examine this cleverly-executed piece of mechanism. Although the idea was suggested by the plan of Dr. Purchas there is no resemblance between them. The sight of the latter suggested the former, which is wholly distinct. The bugcy is isiDgle-seated and panelled, and the seats made of bent native timber, which was thought to be impossible. The body of the buggy is extremly light, not weighing more (apart from the iron work) than twenty pounds, ■which is two thirds less than the usual weight. The design is elegant, and the structure most convenient. The front part of the reach ia solid, and the back part plated. The springs and the whole of tho iron work, which were manufactured by two young men who were taught heir trade on the premises, will be exhibited without paint. This is one of the neatest vehicles of the kind we have yet seen, and we would call especial attention to it among the exhibits of Monday next.
