June 13.—An action for breach of promise of marriage, brought by a man named Wiltshire against Occlcsiou and wife, termiuatcd in a verdict for the defendants.—At a meeting of the friends of Captain Walker, great opposition was offered to the proposedproperty-tax.— Amian named Dixon was arrested on board the Gothenburg at the Heads, charged with desertion.—Myles has been committed for tr.al for tho murder of his brothsr by striking him on the head with a hammer.—Soma of tho passengers and crow of tho Somersetshire still remain at tho Sanitary Station on account of their refusal to submit to re-vaccination. — The Bendigo district is proving extraordinarily productive and progressive.—The Carl sailed for Fiji with a number of passengers, horses, and boats. —An earthquako shock has been felt at Beechworth, Albury. — Markets generally firmer; tobacco slightly advanced.—Chief Justice Stowell has been granted twelve months' leave of absence on account of ill health. Barry fills the vacancy. —The Sydney Permissive Bill has lapsed. Parliament will probably be prorogued this week.—The Press is advocating the San Francisco mail route.—ln breadstuff's the market is hardening, in consequence of a report of the failure of crops in California.—lt is reported that Earl Belmore in to obtain the Governorship of the Madras Presidency.— The Nebraska attracted much attention, and was visited by the Governor, members of Parliament, the Corporation, and thousand of citizens.— Tho schooner Calendar wa wrecked at Richmond Biver Heads.—John Fairfax has founded two prizes for female members of the University.
