SINGULAR A CCIDENT AT THE MOANATAIRI TRAMWAY.
A sing. ■ lab accident and narrow escape occurred yesterday at the steep incline of the Moanatairi tramway, near the Tramway battery. , Aloaded truck was being let down the steep incline,' but the traction wire was not attached, a man being on the break. It appears that, the flange of one of the wheels was broken, and this cut into the wooden rail, thus checking its progress.. The result was that the sudden check-on-the incline capsized the truck with soch force' that it over-ended, and scarcely a hundredweight of the stone was pitched out, the whole remaining on the tramway under the capsized tr,ck withi.i ab,>ut a yard of the Tramway battery. The breaksman,; yvi|h .remarkable presence of mind, jumped on,', when he felt the check, without a moment's hesitation, and thus saved hiuiseli from what might have been very serious consequences.—Advertiser, Oct. 11.
