VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

J The ordinary weekly parade of the Auckland I Bifle Volunteers took place yesterday morning, in the Albert Barracks. The muster was not a very large one, but this was doubtless due to the fact that many of the members were not aware that the parade was coming off! Those present were put through the usual exercises, and acquitted themselves creditably. Last evening a largely attended meeting of the Committee of Management was held at the Drill-shed, Princes-street, the president (Captain Derrom) in the chair. A letter was read from his Honor the Superintendent in reference to the rifle-range at Mount Eden, the substance of which letter was given in our report of the Committee's last meeting. Regimental orders from Colonel Harrington were read in reference to the forth coming prize-firing, of which the following is a summary:—The firing is to take place on the 6th of June next, under any circum stances, and regardless of the state of the weather. The prizes are as follows :—Auckland Volunteers, Ist, £12 ; 2nd, £6 ; 3rd, £3 —total, £21. Thames, Ist prize, £12 ; 2nd, £6; 3rd, £3—total, £21. Waiuku and Wairoa, Ist prize, £12 ; 2nd, £6; 3rd, £3 — total, £21. This will leave a balance of £7, which is to be awarded to the district which makes the highest average shooting. The firing is to take place in the respective districts of the various corps. The Auckland Volunteers will fire at Point Chevalier; but us there are so many of them, that it would be impossible for them all to fire on the same day, they will be allowed two days for their shooting. Nos. 1, 2, 3, and 4 Companies will fire on Monday, the 6th; Nos. 5 and 6, and the Naval Volunteers, will fire on the following day. Besides a sergeant, who is to be present with each company, a commissioned officer will havo to be in charge. The firing party are to assemble on the morning of the shooting at the tollgate, Great North Road, for the purpose of proceeding to the butts. The above memorandum was read to the committee for the guidance of the men. A memorial was also read, which is to be forwarded to the Genera Government by the committee, on the subject of increasing the capitation grant to the old allowance of 50s. per head. It was resolved that an entertainment should be given as soon as possible, in aid of the funds of the band, and a committee was appointed to set about the matter; also that a sum of £6 10s. should be paid by the Treasurer to the Bandmaster as soon as sufficient funds were in hand. A draft set of rules for the guidance of the committee were read and considered. It was stated that the Auckland team would not be able to fire the return match with the Thames team on or before the 3rd of June, as requested by them, and it was resolved to request that the time of the match might be extended. Some other matters of minor interest were discussed, after which the meeting adjourned.
