CORRESPONDENCE.
(We are not responsible for our Correspondents' opinions.) - # ASSAULT ON MR. W. H. NEWTON. To the Editor of the Evening Stab. Sib, —I observe a paragraph in your Saturday's paper, in which the Thames Volunteers, lately.at Tauranga, are taken to task for subscribing money to nullify a verdict of the Auckland Bench. I think if you knew the facts of the case, so far as regards Captain McCwrol and his men, you might enjoy a laugh at their being so easily gulled by a tale of woe, but would certainly exonerate one and all from any idea of paying a justly inflicted fine. There is considerable indignation expressed by the men now that the true facts are brought before them.—l am, &c, A VOLUNTEEB. Q-rahamstown, May 9, 1870.
