NO POSTPONEMENT OF ARRANGEMENTS

Minister' 3 Letter to Committee

The Akaroa Centennial committee has received a letter from the Minister of Internal Affairs asking them to carry out the centennial celebrations as previously arranged and the Mayor Mr F. Davis, stated yesterday that the arrangements already made would be proceeded with. He said officers of the Department of Internal Affairs would visit Akaroa shortly and he proposed to call a central meeting of Barks Peninsula representatives to meet them and discuss the programme again. A meeting of the Akaroa centennial committee would be held on i November 8, when the Minister's let- | ter would be discussed. '

Mr Davis states that the Minister does not mention any curtailment of the Government's programme for the Akaroa celebrations though they would not have the navy- present to assist with them.
