ON BANKS PENINSULA
Considerable Herd Losses After
Snowstorm
The late season and the effects of the July snrwstorm on Banks Penin-
sulp are having their effect upon
dairy facto 'y producti )n this year
There was an unusual shortage of grass in August and September and
a great deal of hay and other fodder
had to be purchased to keep up feed
supplies for the herds. As a result of the snowstorm there was also a
much heavier loss of dairy cows this
spring than usual and some dairymen
weie heavy ioasers in this respect,
Miik production was naturally mater-
ially affecte-.i by the lack of grass
Ihe figures for milk received at tne
L-arrys Bay Dairy factoiy show that
up to a week ago milk received was 500 gallons to 600 gallons short of
last year's figures. Up to last week
the factory was receiving 2000 gal-
compared with 2600 gallons at
the same pe:.iod last year. The warm
ww.ther la it year showed that the
hcids were gaining ground and the
l.ulk received went up to 2500 gallons. The manager, however, explains that
the flush period of milk is very much below last vea" though there is the

milking, which was cut so short ow-
ng to the drought conditions. The
other factories -n the Peninsula are
experiencing similar conditions. One
supplier states that he is bOO pounds of milk sho re in two dairies this sea-
son. The Barry Bay Factory are now
