HEAVY SOU'WEST GALE
| A strong Souih West gale blew up early yesterday morning, the Akaroa Harbour being very rough, A tree falling across the lines interrupted telephone communication up Balguerie Valley.
Good Soaking Rains
After coming in very dry followr.g a dry September, October is going out with plenty of rain. Since Thursday 1.75 inches have been recorded at Akaroa, making the total for the month 2.68 inches. There was d very heavy fall on Friday and on Saturday morning 94 points were registered. The rain which was much needed has gone well into the ground, and should assure growers of a good cocksfoot crop. The cocksfoot is very late this year, there being practically no growth yet in some of the paddocks. The records for October up to yesterday moi'ning were:—
