MAIN HIGHWAY TO AKAROA
ROUGH CONDITION ONLY
fEMFORARY
At the September meeting of the Akaroa Boiough Council a motion ■was passed asking the Public Works
Department if the construction work between Duvauchelle and Robinson's
Bay could not be completed, so that the road was left in good order, be-
fore fresh work at Takamatua was
carried out.
At Wednesday's meeting the following letter from Mr F. Langbein. the Main Highway's Board was received to cffect that the whole road would soon be in good order. The letter is as follows : 'Your Council need; not be apprehensive regarding the present state of the reconstruction work between Duvauchelles and Robinsons. This is only a temporary phase of the work which has been prolonged owing to the metalling plant earmarked for the job, being directed to urgent defence work.
"Your Council will realize that it is not possible to maintain a smooth surface during consti'uction operations and some inconvenience has to be put up with, but this, of course, should not last longer than is absolutely necessary.
"An improvement to the Duvau-chelles-Robinson Bay section will be made as soon as possible."
