The chairman said that it was impossible to go in for market gardening in Ak'aioa as there were no suitable ground. Councillor McNabb moved that the Clerk reply that there was no land here suitable for planting; seconded by Councillor Reid arid carried. Show at Chorlton . The Chorlton-Little Akaloa Womens' Division applied for the use of the Borough gardener as judge for their flower show and the application was granted. Public Cemetery ~ The Department of Health wrote re the Public Cemetery that the matter of having the hilly portion transferred and made into an ordinary reserve was being referred to the General Department of Health, j Emergency Precautions . The Akaroa County Council wrote -in regard to the public meeting discussing emergency matters to be held on October 14. The chairman • said the Council had been represented and the meeting reported. He added that the Borough Council committee's report of the meeting would come before them later. Centenary Celebrations The General secretai*y of 'Internal Acairs wrote to effect that owing to the. war the Naval Authorities could take no part in the Centenary celebrations. Akaroa Butter Factory Mr H. W.' Armitage- wrote in regard to the Akaroa Butter Factory that the building had been empty for px months and asking that the usual Revision of half rates be allowed. The application was granted subject to its being in order.

: Wellington Exhibition I The Canterbury Court of N.Z. Ex-, hibition wrote advising re accommodation provided for members of local bodies and theii wives. They would ; be pleased to have the names of rep-, resentatives of the Council at the Exhibition. • Councillor Petrie moved it be left in the Mayor's hands with power to act; seconded by Councillor Whelch and carried. Centennial Rate The Department of Internal Affairs wrote (giving the Akafoa. Boirough authority to raise a rate for the Centennial Funds. Drdmore Reserve Mr S. H. J "Curd, lessee of the.Drbniore Reserve wi'ote in regard* to im-.. provements * that these were higher than anticipated and asking if the. lease could -be' altered" to meet the position. After -discussion Councillor Whelch suggested' the Majw and the Cleiflc should go down to Ashburton and see Mr Curd. He moved that the Mayor be asked to visit the pi-operty and interview. Mr Curd in regard to the i increase in the cost of improvements. Seconded by Councillor Petrie anid carried.;: Councillor McNatb said he had been a member of the Reserves committee: for years and he had never been asked yet .to visit,.the Reserve. The'.chairman pointed out that .the. Council as a whole, dealt with the Dromore Reserve.

Lease Signed The extension of the lease to Mr Jamieson to 1951 was duly signed and sealed/ • Application for Hose " The Akaroa Fix'e Brigade applied for 500 feet of new hose as the balance of their hose was in very bad order; In the event of a fire the Brigade could 'not deal efficiently witth the fire. In discussion it was stated no amount had been put on the Estimates and the' application was held over until Concillo'r 1 Pobl was in attendance. Photographs'for' the Centenary Councillor 1 Petne asked if there was a photograph of eVery one of the past Mayors. He 'anticipated .that if the Centenary was held next year .there would be a photograph taken of the TVlayor and Councillors. ] Councillor Briifce' suggested that Councillor 1 Petrie and the Clerk compile a list "of past Mayors and get their photographs.
