CHORLTON-LITTLE AKALOA BRANCH

There was an excellent attendance at the October meeting of the Choil-ton-Little Akaloa branch of the Womens Division of the Farmers' Union presided over by Mrs R. ; M. Craw and held, in the Library, Little Akaloa. Before commencing, Mrs Craw asked the members to stand and extend a motion of sympathy to Mr and Mrs Orlan Gilbert and relatives. 'Final arrangements were made for the branch's annual flower show to be held on Thursday, November 2 As sOon as the business was concluded the .meeting formed itself into surprise birthday party for their oldest member, Mrs W. Craw snr., who this month celebrated her eightieth birthday. The president presented her V'ith a pretty Victorian posy and ask- : ed her to cut tht. beautifully decorated birthday cake, that was a gift from all the members to her with their •best wishes for many more happy birthdays. Mrs Craw briefly thanked them all for such -a pleasant surprise and a : veyy gay party tea finished up the afternoon. Mrs Salt won the competition for pikelets with Mrs R. M. Craw second and Mrs Luke Waghorn was first for the best Polyanthus with Miss Thelma Craw second. One new member was welcomed.
