FANCY DRESS BALL

ANNUAL CHILDRENS' FUNCTION AT AKAROA A Evening The Children?' Fancy Dress Ball held in the Oddfellow's Hall, Akaroa 1 on Friday last was a great success-' and much credit is due to the Presi-' dent of the Akaroa Plunket Society, Mrs W. H. Taylor, the secretary, MrsW. A. Newton and the many willing thelpers on-the committee for the excellent arrangements made. The at- 1 tendance was larger than usual -and the standard of the costumes showed that the .parents had be«n to a great deal of trouble. Mr W. ,H. Taylor acted as M.C. for the childrens section and ? Mr J. Prendergast jnr., for the later dance. Messrs E. May, S. C. Nai-' smith and B. W. Henning acted as doorkeepers.

Lucky spot waltzes were won by Joan and Denis Williams and by Juidith Helps ard Marie 'May and by Lois Erickson, and Doreen Dann. Music ws? supplied by Mrs L. Bailey extras being played by Mrs iPilkington and Miss M. Gilbert.

During the evening, Adjutant Mayfield of the Salvation Army, kindly gave some cornet solos and lead the children in community singing.

Mr F. Davis, Mayor, congratulated the Akaroa Plunket Society on the success of the function which was, a credit to the Plunket officials at Akaroa. He considered the costumes! were better than usual and he was. pleased to see the children having such a happy time.
