LITTLE RIVEK LAWN TENNIS CLUB

Opening Day Heid

The Little River Lawn Tennis club held their opening day last Saturday when there was a large gathering of members and visitors. The weather was fine a>\d an enjoyable day was spent. Mr P. Ussher (club captain) welcomed the visitors and said "that the club had hue. a successful season financially, and they had also won the Banks Peninsula Rhode's cup competition. lie then asked Mr W. H. Montgomery (chairman of the Damain Board and Patron of the club) to declare the season open and present the cups and trophies. Mr Montgomery congratulated the club on being the winners of the Rhodes cup, also on it's membership of about 50 members. He stated that the Agricultural and Pastoral Association were taking no further action in the removal of the third court, and that the Domain Board would contribute £8 toward- its repair. He then presented the cups and trophies won during the season. Ladies championship (Montgomery cup)— Miss Melva Webster. Men's championship (club cup)— Mr Les. Radford. Ladies singles (handicap), (Elliott cup)-—Mrs R. Barclay. Men's Singles, handicap (Montgomery cup)—Mr P. O'Connor. Rhodes cup (Banks Peninsula Competition—Little Kiver club. Combined handicap doubles (Mr J. 0. Coop's trophies)— Miss Olive Breitmeyer and Mr W. Rout. LITTLE RIVER TENNIS CLUB Ladies Afternoon Mrs C. Bryant, who has been a member of the dub for a number of years and is leaving the district, was the guest of honour at a ladies afternoon on Tuesday. The afternoon took the form of a Yankee tournament which was won by Miss Eileen Harty. On behalf of those present, Miss Melva Webster (Secretary) presented Mrs Bryant with a parting gift and wished her a happy future. Mrs Bryant suitably replied.
