AKAROA BOATING CLUB

Mr R. J. Phillips, club captain, pre-sidt-d at a committee meeting on Wednesday when there were present also Mssrs T. Hay ward, C. Gracia, W. W. Reid, E. Bain, C. Walker, and D. Reid. Apologies were received from Messrs K. Chatteris, G. Whelch and R. Keegan.

It was decided to procure a new set cf rowing oars and that members carry out repaii work in the Social Hall.

Later the meeting met a number of lady supporters and discussed arrange ments for opening day.

The ladies present were Mesdames R. Campbell, W. Thompson, W. W. Reid. R. J. Phillips, Misses E. Keegan, P. Ferris, B. Whelch, M. Gilbert and B. Ladbrooks. Apologies were received from Mesdames E. Giddens, E. May, F. G. Riches, J. E. Armstrong, Misses D. Leete, N. Hewning and P. Kearney.

Arrangements were made for competitions on opening day. It was decided to hold the usual four races and to give a prize ror the: best decorated boat.

A ladies crew consoling of Miss P. Ferris (str), Miss V. Gracia (3), Miss P. Davis (2), and Miss J. Lennon (bow) nas challenged a youth's cicw, which has had no regatta experience. Three youth's crews have taken up the challenge as follows and the winners will row the ladies. No. 1 —J. Phillips (str), Lee Langrope (3), S. Erickson and J. Mcßride (bow) No 2 T. Pool (btr), M. Guerney (S), J. Barrett (2), J. Truman (bow). No 3—W. Hansen (str), R. VVoodill (3), D. Kotlowski (2). The bow seat is still open. Learn to Row Month A number of young boys have come forward to learn the art of rowing. All of them have taken to the sport with great enthusiasm. Everything is being done to encourage them to take up the finest of aquatic sports. Given the chance to learn, these young fellows are proving that they are only too willing to give of their best provided senior oarsmen take an active interest in teaching them the noble art.
