FAREWELL SOCIAL AT LE BON'S BAY Successful Gathering On Friday evening: there was a large gathering at the Le Bons Bay j Hall when the members of the Womens' Institute farewelled Mrs 0. A. Thelning, the ex-president, who leaves early in April to attend the confer- ! ence of the Associated Women of the World being held in London in Jnue. The social took the form of a dance, Mr Stan. Hewitt acting as M.C, The following items were given—Vocal Duet —Mrs J. Truman and Miss Leonardo: Recitation, Mr Andrew: Concertina item, Mrs Stan Hewitt. Music for the dancing was supplied by Miss Leonardo, Mrs J. G. Truman, Mr Stan Hewitt, Mr li. Thelning and others. After supper Miss J. Dalglish, president said they had met to farewell Mrs Thelning and wish her a very happy voyage. She asked Miss Leonardo to make her a presentation. Miss Leonardo in presenting Mrs Thelning with an initialled writing outfit spoke of Mrs Theining's great work for the Institute. They would miss her very much, but they all considered she deserved a very happy trip. Miss E. Jacobson on behalf of the Peninsula Institutes also wished Mrs Thelning a happy voyage and a safe return. All present then sang "For She's a Jolly Good Fellow." Mrs Thelning said she felt deeply grateful for all the kinds things said about her and the gift. She hoped she would be able to give them a good account of her trip. Mr Theining's Plans At the request of his wife Mr 0. A. Thelning thanked them all for their great kindness. He was leaving himself three weeks later for England and would meet his wife there. They both looked forward to the trip and to returning to their friends at Le Bons Bay.
COMING-OF-AGE I'ARTY Mr Paddy McNabb Honoured On Friday night the Oddfellows Hall, Akaroa was the scene of a very enjoyable dance when Mr and Mrs E. G. McNabb entertained a number of quests to celebrate the coming of age of their youngest son, Mr A. (Paddy) McNabb. At the supper table Mr F. Davis acted as chairman, while a number of toasts were honoured. Mr Davis congratulated Mr and Mrs E. G. McNabb on the occasion and thanked them for the pleasant evening. Mr K. Swainson proposed the toast of the guest of the evening, "Paddy" and handed him the traditional golden key. Mr Paddy McNabb replied thanking them for the many gifts he had received. Mr Len. Bailey proposed the toast jf Mr and Mrs E. G. McNabb, Mr E. J. McNabb replying.
Mr J. Prendergast proposed the coast of Paddy's sister and brothers, Mr F. G. JUcNabb replying. A feature of the table was the birthday cake made by Paddy's sister, Mrs Elliott, Rangiora. Messrs J. McNabb and E. Issacs were masters of ceremony. Novelty dances were won by Miss Joan Lennon and Mr R. Kelly (statue dance), Miss Doreen Pool and Mr I. Petterson (Monte Carlo), Mrs J. Prendergast and Mr R. P. Woodill and Miss Elaine Wright and Mr M. Elliott (lucky spot waltz). A competition was won by Miss Noreen, Bailey.
