KEEN INTEREST AT AKAROA REGATTA

K< encr interest was displayed in tlu .-sailing races at the Akaroa Re;l:i than for many years past. The <c)mat;<;n of the Akaroa Sailing and I'ovv-er Boat club and the establishing of a weekly race had certainly •riven a fillip to sailing and seven boats entered in the local boat race. Messrs W. Pool and D. Beaumont acted as handicappei'S and Mr P. G. Riches was starter and time keeper. Two rac-s were sailed on regatta day, or," for locally ownd boats in the morning, which was won by Mr F. J. A. Wright with "Hoa" and a .".wcepstake open race in the afternoon. won by Mr H. A. Rrind with "Awatoa" The sailing certainly was an added attraction to the regatta this year and the progress of the races was followed with interest. The results of the races were as follows :— Handicap Sailing Race for Locally Owned Boats

Ilea (F. J. A. Wright) 45mins 1 Sea Pup (G. A. Hammond) 9min 2 Rascal (V. Davis) 25n>ins 3 Reo (A. Johnson) set .. .. 4 Starting at 11 a.m. the Hoa completed the two rounds with a steady > northerly breeze at 12.21 p.m. She was followed by Sea 4 Pup at 12.35 p.m.. Rascal at 12.36 and Reo at - 12.38. Sweepstake Yach't Race Awatea (11. A. Rhind) 125mins 1 S-.U Kid (A. T. Round) 50min .. 2 . lloa (l* 1 . J. A. Wright) GOmins .. 3 iakauo (B. Geisler) scr .. .. 4 Lady Jane, Reo and Sea Pup also , started. ' The Awatea finished 20mins ahead oi' the Sea Kid and Hoa 25 mins later • than the Sea Kid. The rest of the i boats rinished close together.
