COiMIM'ITTEIE" MEETING
The monthly meeting of the Committee: was held on Monday, when there were present 'Messrs A. M. Helps (chairman), W. Green, T. E. McKenzie. Rev. C. 'L. Wilson: (hon. treas.),
and W. Jacobson (hon. sec.)
Apologies were received' from Messrs F. G. Armstrong and F. Wright
The chairman reported having seen Mr Arnold re storage of chemicals andl Mr Green that he hacl shifted heap of asphalt. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Green.
The Headmaster, >Mr P. A. -Mickle, reported' as follows :—
"I have to report as follows :— The roll' number in: the primary department has increased' to 108 while there is a slight decline i'n; the roll cf the secondary department. The school was inspected in all depart - n.mts by Messrs Graham, Haslam and Bates on 17th inst. and' 18th. T'hel reports are not 1 yet to hand. The manual technical' classes were inspected by Mr Austin oni 20th Sept. and all work was proceeding quite satisfactorily. iMiss Lee is to remain in the infant department until Ist. Nov. when Miss Shanks will take up duties. Miss- Joyce will remain until the same date when -Miss Brown will commence duties in the secondary department. The- remainder of the report dealt' with the visit of the Sou.thlbridge pupils and the visit of the High School pupils to Sumner and Lytteflton.
The Education Board' wrote ccnifirn> ing the appointments of Miss Shanks as infant mistress l and Miss Brown as secondary assistant.
The Akaroa High School' Board forwarded £37 10s for boarding allowance for pupils.
The Education Board' and Mr J. Mc Combs wrote advising re purchase of site' for secondary school.
Mr McKenzie moved the Education Board be' wriittem to asking that now the site had) been secured, when would the new scho'ol' be built as- the committee wished to make arrangements for country .pupils for next year; seconded by Rev. C. L. Wilson and carried.
The chairman secretary and Mr F. Armstrong were appointed to attend a meeting of delegates fron> Peninsula schools to discuss the matter of forming a Peninsula School' Committees' Association. The treasurer was authorised to pay boarding allowance and capitation grant if available, covering a four weeks-' period. 'Mr ;Green and 1 the secretary reported re cricket material- for the primary school' boys. Mr Green was repairing two bats l for their use and it was decided' to ask :Mr Arnold to supply a set of wickets from the Sports 'Clulb funds. 'Mr Green was thanked for kindly undertaking the work of repairing bats- for the- boys.
