TOUR OF HIGH SCHOOL PUPILS.

VISIT TO (SUMNER AND LYTTELTON.

| Friday morning saw the departure I of eleven boys and twelve girls of the jAkaroa District High School en route 1 for iSumner and Lytteiton in charge lof Mr Mi'ckla and Missi Joyce. It was | a vary cold morning drive as there I had been- heavy falls >of snow over- | night on the hillgi The: journey was enlivened -by Tap 1 P«? > met,^j6h^, ( schoo'f gates' and ,taker* '"m "charge I>y our hosts and hostesses at! Sumner.

Amid showers of icy coldness the tenr.is matches were hurried' through during the.early afternoon. We suffered defeat to .Sumner High School by 6il to* 24 games. Ati 3 p.m. we were entertained at afternnon tea in the tennis pavilion where speeches of welcome were delivered by the Mayoress, iMrs Nicholson and Mr Allen Headmaster of the Sumner School. Our boys were fortified by the sumptuous repast and hot' tea and literally ran all over the Sumner boys at "Rugger" our score ibeing 17 points

to nil. Our boys played a fine game and our opponents were helpless to stem the tide.

Bu:t alas our girls had to suffer defeat by the Sumner girls at basket ball, the score being Sumner 7 and Akaroa no score. We hurried home, after our games, to "dress up." for the Fancy Dress Ball to which we' were all given complimentary tickets. The Sumner Hall was packed tight with children and adults and the hall presented a happy sight for some hours. Special prizes were given- and we were not forgotten as a. special prize was given to one. of our girls Avril Kearney who represented; a; French)- artist. Most of us were 1 safely under the 1 roofs of our hospitable hosts iby .1)1 p.m.

•Early on- Saturday morning we were speeding to. our rendezvous the High 'School gates to catch our motor bus as we were to leave for Lyttelton over the hill road, at 9 a.m. And what a glorious morn to scale those heights and look down into the waters of Lyttelton Harbour ! To many of us, it was our first trip to -Lyttelton by this road.

'Lyttelton was reached: about 9.30 a.m. and we were met by Mr Wilson, Headmaster. The football match was got going quickly and our boys again showed the benefit of their training and coaching by defeating Lyttelton boys by 16 to 4. The girls were again unlucky in the Basketball match for they were beaten by 0 to 1. The tennis' matchcs were then proceeded with and the full scores are as follows, our school winning 54 games l to Lyttelton D.H.S. 53 games, a. close call.

| Lunch, was kindly provided by the pupils and staff of the Lyttelton D.H.S. to which our boys and girls did full justice. We left. Lyttelton at 2 p.m. for home via Sumner and Christchurch. We all had a. glorious time and arrived back at 5.20 p.m. feeling that we'd like another such tour, any time. TENiN'I.9 AT LYTiTRLTON D.H.S. Akaroa D.'H.S. being mentioned!
