EXTENDING POWER LINES.
-0 LINKING UP GOUGHS AND LONG BAYS. At the last meeting of the Power Board the Chairman, Mr J. R. Thacker said he had been in touch with the residents in Gough's and Long Bay, and Hickory in regard to extending the Power Board's lines to reach the homesteads in that district. He said the residents were willing to give a good deal of time and find the poles for that extension and do practically all the unskilled labour. When installed they would also use motors and light to a large extent. They" were willing to use enough current to justify the Board's expenditure in capital outlay, and if £400 was required for this and they only used £250 worth of current they would find the extra £150 among themselves. They had promised to forward to the Board a rough measurement of, the lines and he had hoped to receive the plans from them that day. In answer to the chairman, the resident engineer, Mr F. A. Lewthwaite said the Board might be -able to use some of the wire taken out of ,' the old Akaroa system and that I would reduce the cost of the extensions. He said he thought if the consumers in that area assisted and were good current consumers the extension might be made a payable one 1 without any guarantee at all. The matter was held over until- the ! data required was supplied so that an estimate of the cost could be made.
