The Akaroa Mail. FRIDAY, JANUARY 24, 1913. AKAROA COUNTY RACES.

* . The popular Peninsula meeting, to be hold on March 6, promises to be an . unqualified success tbia year. Tbe cutting down of tbe number of race meetings in tbe iarge centres has led to the .remaining fixtures being well patronbad, and it ia expected that there wild be a large entry for the various? events, and some keen racing. The meeting cornea at a moat convenient time for tbe Peninsula farmers, who have finished their cocksfoot, a nd feel tbe need at some relaxation alitor the heavy work at tbe summer months. Tbe removal at Abe'

meeting from Little River to Wailiora; Park affected the Peninsula attend" ; ance somewhat last year, but from ! what we have heard since the realization that the Waihora course is no further afield than Little Rivor, the i attendance will be as large as ever. The train journey is only a short one, and adds very little time to the trip there and back. The officials of the Racine; Club are leaving no stone unturned to improve the course, which could be mad 6 one of the finest in Npw Zealand. The Domain is also such a suitable place for picnicking] that apart from the racing tba meeting affords an opportunity for the Peninsula people to have a pleasant day's outing. Last year the day of the meeting was a perfect one as far as weather was concerned. It is sad to see the District Trot, which used to be watched with such keen interest, dropped out, but the small entry necessitated the substitution of the Waihora Park Handicap Open Trot The advent of the motor car is reducing the general breeding of horses, and farmers no longer take the same piide in preparing their trotters for the races. It is hoped, however, that there will be some Peninsula horses competing in the trots, and we are sure the officials would be delighted to give the palm to a good Peninsulabred trotter.
