AKAROA SAILING CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING.
Tbe annual meeting of the Akiroa Sailing Club was held in the Borough Council Chambers on Monday evening, when there was a good attenduncp, Mr A Gray in the chair.
Mr L. J. Vangioni, secretary of the Club, presented the report, which stated tbat last year eleven trophies and several cash prizes bad been sailed for. During the season Dr. VlcEteddie (Commodore of the Club) had taken bis departure. Hβ had been an enthusiastic Commodore, and his departure was keenly regretted. A farewell banquet bad been tendered him, which bad passed off success fully. An enlarged photograph of the boats that bad sailed bad been presented to the departing Commodore. Tbere were a number of sailing prizes offered for (be coming season, and ten new members were enrolled. Tbe balance sheet showed a substantial balance of £9. The Club's thanks" were accorded to Mr W. Kearney aa club starter and handicapper.
The report and- balance-sheet were adopted.
The following officer were elected : Patron, Hon. 11. H. Rhodes ; President, Mr G. Armstrong, Vico Presidents, Messrs W. Parkin, W. K. Virtue, G. Pilkington, J. W. Halliday, G. Chsckley, and T. E. Taylor; Commodore, Mr A. Gray ; Committee, the boat owners and captains; Hon. Sec, Mr L. J. Vangioni. The chairman said tbe tbanks of the Club and the town itself were due to Mr Vangioni for the revival of sailing at Akaroa. It was entirely due to Mr Vangioni that sailing was in such a flourishing condition at present. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the secretary.
Opening day wae fixed for Thus day, October 24th.
Ie was decided to hold a race on opening day, and that in the evening a dinner be held at which the trophies won last year would be presented. It was resolved the Club'e bandicapper be presented with a trophy for his services, and a vote of thanks was passed to him. He was re-elected bandicapper subject to his accepting the po3Uiun.
Twelve new members were elected, and Mr H. Hemingway's resignation was accepted with regret.
Accounts amounting to £2 7a 4d were passed for payment.
It was decided that any sails be used on opening day.
A recommendation was passed to boat owners to fill their crews on race days with members of the Club in preference te non-members. Ifc was resolved the club colours be blue and white, and a Commodore's flag be procured, Thursday was fixed for racing day, and a race was fixed for Saturday, November 2nd Messrs W. Pool, A. Gray and R. Hammond were appointed a subcommittee to draft rules for the Club and report. Votes of thanks were passed to the retiring officers, to the chairman of the meteing, and to tbe Council for tbe use of the chambers, and the meeting terminated.
