AKAROA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of this Council was held on Wecines .ay evening. Present—Hie Worship the Mayor and Ore. Checkle/, Newton, Ch»ppall, Henning, Vangioni, ilunro, and Ingram.

MINOTIS. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

CORRESPONDENCE.

Outward correspondence was read and approved.

Inward correspondence waa read— From Mr Allo, saying he had returned to New Z°alaad and was ready to harness waterfalls, etc., for eleotrioal purposes. From Grehan Valley residents, re application for water.

The Towu Clerk explained that the matter had been dealt with last meeting. From Messrs T, B. Taylor & Co,, complaiDing that consignirents of seed had been mixed up on the wharf and so caused much trouble. The tarpanlius also had, in some cases been remov. d. They asked the Council to protect goods oa the wharf.

The Mayor said that the Council could not proreot goods on the wharf. Anyone who pub goods on the wharf did so at their own risk.

Cr lugram said he thoueht the wharf shed keys were the real subject of the letter. The Mayor suggested a reply should be cent to MesereT. E. Taylor & Co,, saying that the sheJ was opan to all during the day, but after 5 p.m. the wharfinger's duties ended, and the key was then in hie hands. Cr Ingram said after the shed was full the seed had to be stored on the wh*rf at the risk of the shippers. Cr Newton said the other day 40 sacks only were in the shed and 500 were on the wharf,

Cr Vangioni aske 1 if the shed held more than 500 sacks.

Cr Newton said that the shed held at least 700 saoks.

The Mayor moved—That Messrs I. B. Taylor & Co. be informed that exports.and imports to Akaroa did nob warrant a larger ehed being built , . Beconded by Cγ Newton. Or Henning sugges ed a rider be added to the effect that the Council-was not respon eible for goods placed on the wharf. The motion was then put and carried. Cγ Henning asked if ihe Baak of New Zealand had cent any reply to the Council's letter. The Mayor said no reply bad been rooeived, FINANOB REFORT. Receipts since last meeting—Bates £114 a Id, Rent £4 10s, Dogs £1 12s 6d, Boavea* gering £6 7a sd, Water Service 20s, Sale o! Tins 6', total £15 10a. Cr at Bank of New Zealand—Drainage Loan Account £90 17s 6d ; Dr to Bank of Now Zealand—General Account £27219 a3d

Accounts to be presented—General Account : Foreman £5, V. Magee £3 14e, F. A. Hahn £1, 6. Lawrence £5 15a, T. E. Taylor & Co. £4 3s Id, total £19 12s Id. The accounts as read were pasted for payment. NEW SITB FOR BATHS. Cr Heaning suggested that a new site for town baths be procured. The original site was chosen because of jealousy between the two different ends of the town. The Council wanted to make the town as attractive as possible to visitors. He thought it was apparent that the baths were in ft bad place now. Behind Mr Wiggina'a section was an ideal place. He moved— That the question of acquiring a more can* trai site for the Baths be referred to a Bathe , Committee to deil with the matter at » future meeting. Cr Munro seconded the motion. He thought the town ought to be well brought before the public. ' (The motion was carried. KIROBBKB.

Or Oheckley moved—That the Town Clerk be authorized to procure 20 oases of kerosene from the looal tradesmen. Cr Ingram aeked If it were not better to call tenders for a year's supply, as the Hospital did. The motion was seconded by Cγ Chappell and carried. i BROOM ON BESEKVB, • Cr Ohappell said he thought that the broom should be out away from near Mra PenllogtoD'sj It had been instrumental in causing a fire. He moved—That the Reeert yes Committee's attention be called to the broom growing in front of Mrs Penlingboo's house.

Seconded by the Mayor and carried. VEHICLES WITHOUT LIGHTS.

Cr Muuro asked if there was aDV by law regarding traps travelling during tha night; without lights. The Mayor said the matter wae one for the police to decide.

The Council then w«nt into Committee to discuss Drainage matt ere wi h the Borough Engineer, Mr W. D. Wilkins. On resuming, the Mayor announced that the O< UQcil had authorized the Engineer to procure piroelain pipee from the Melbourne Lime and Cement Co. HXPBN3BB TO OHRISTOHUROtI The Mayor aai.l that Cγ Checkley had been to Christchuroh on Coi*c : l business, and he thought his expenses sh>.uld be paid. He moved—That the sim of £3 be voted to him for expenses. Seconded by Or Munro and oarried.

DRIVING WITHOUT LIGHTS Or Munro said that the Town Clerk had looked the matter up. and found that there waa a bylaw dealing with traps driving without lights. The Mayor said that it was the Conncil'e intention to go into the matter ot revision of their by laws later, and the matter could then be considered.
