LEAP YEAR BALL AT CHORLTON.

The young ladies of Little Akaloa s\nd Ohorlton are to bo congratulated on rhb success of the leap year ball, held in the Montgomery Hall, Ohorlton on February 29bh, the arrangements for which wera in their hands, Several invitations were issued to residents of other Biya, but the inchnv ent abate of the weather prevented muny from being present; but, notwithstanding this, ther« was a aood attendacce, The hall waabeauti'ul'y daeorn'-el with flowers, ferns and other groenary ami Chinese lanterns, the latter adding gre.uly to the effeob. (■>,), and Mr Stan'ey (violin) For thn fi-st ii >lf of the programme bhe ladies hid th* privilege of chosing their partners, which they did with great liberality aud discretion, as wall-flowers of the sterner sex were not much in evidence. Mies Ruth Hunter made n. very efficient M.O. The euppor wae catered fo>- by a Chii<itchurch confeotioner, and was all that could be desired. The badge worn by the members of the committee consisted of pink and green paper roses in >h) hair, and it was bhe general opinion that these marred the effect of wlnti were otherwise pretty costumes. Among those present were:—Miss Ashton, in white muslin ; Miss A. Adams. pink with white trimmings ; Miss K. Boahwood, very noticeable in tuaaore silk w'fch pink waist belt and hair arranged with butterfly bow to match; Misses I. and L.
