AKAROA REGATTA.

The Committee call for tenders for Regatta privileges, to be in by Friday next. If they are not disposed of in this manner, they will, as usual, be offered by Mr Robinson at public auction. The Committee meet again on Saturday next in the Oddfellows' Hall (side room), when final arrangements will be made for the Regatta. The J lon. Sec. goes on his usual trip to Christchurch and Lyttelton, for collecting purposes this week, and it is to be hoped he will have the same cordial reception and hearty response as in former years. We hear that a troupe of Maoris, from Little River, under the able management of " Ropertini," or in more serious phrase, Mr George Robinson, will give performances in the Oddfellows' Hall, on the nights of Dec. 15th and Dec. 16th— i.e., Regatta night, Half the proceeds of that given

on Regatta night will goto the Regatta funds. Our friends from Little River would willingly g i ve the whole, but their expenses are heavy. The , entertainment will—it is anticipated—be remarkably good, consisting of hakns, poi dances, and other combined Maori performances. With good dresses, handsome native girls and, muscular men, the performance should be exceedingly interesting; and, no doubt, our friends who come from the Bays on Anniversary Day to see the Regatta, will make arrangements to stop and see this unique Maori performance* the , first that has ever taken place in Akaroa since Europeans first landed on the shores of Akaroa Harbour.
