CHURCH OF ENGLAND SOCIAL AT WAINUI.

On Thursday night quite a large nnmber of Akaroa residents went to Wainui in the Piraki. The trip there and back was a perfect one, and much enjoyed by all the excursion , ists. Amongst others, the St. Peter's choir took the jjurney over to assist with the programnv.', and the glees they gave formed a very attractive feature of the programme. Miss A. Thomas sang " Echo " very feelingly, aod Mrs W. McKay sang those two beautiful songs, " Eternal Reet " and " Ota Pro Nobis." Mr Herriott's fine voice was much appreciated in "My Pretty Jane," md he was obliged to repeat the last ver c. Mr Butler sang " Angles Ever Bright and ?air." Mr Lancaster accompanied most ably iind good naturedly throughout. Mies J. Lelievre also gave hei assis'ance in this direction with her usual good nature. The following of our local tiogeis assisted with the programme : Miss Vangioni sang " The Better Land" very sweetly, while Miss I. Jjcobeon gave that bright song, " The May Morning ; Mr Frank Taylor received hearty encores for his two items, " The Carnival " and " Mona," to which he responded. Mr Sedgwick gave a lecture on south Africi, which, much to the disappoint ment of the audience, was interrupted by ",he Piraki's whistle. The social was a great success, the library baing quite small enough for the number present, and Wainui people must be tempted to repeat the experiment of holding an entertainment of this character.
