Several Bills were introduced and re id a first time,
The second reading of the Teetators Family Maintenance Act Amendment Bill was agreed to on the voioee.
The Sand Drift and Impounding Aot Amendment Bills were committed and pro gress reported.
The Sea Fisheries Bill paeeed its second reading on the voices.
The New Zealand Institute Bill *as read a second time without debate,
The Police Offences Act Amendment Bil passed its second reading. Sbptbmbeb 29.
Mr Buddo brought up the report of the Publio Petitions Committee on the petition of the five Newton hotelkeepere who prayed that they should be allowed to contiaue to sell alcoholic liquors until the result of their appeal to the Privy Council U made known. The report was as follows :— 41 That the committee ie of opinion that the present position of the petitioners is due to dtficte in the Regulation of Local Elections Act, and recommends the Government to b: ing down legislation to remedy euoh defects, particularly in regard to providing for a second poll being taken in all such cases where a poll has been declared void." Mr Buddo moved that the report should be refened to the Government for consideration.

The Industrial Conciliation, General Assembly Library. Munioipal Corporations Amendment, Product?, Export and Animals Protection Bills, passed their second readings: Sbptkmber 30. The second reading of the Intestate E • tatee, the Legitimation Act Amendment Bille, the Fisheries Conservation Act Amendment, The Commissioners Bills, and the Interpretation Act Bill were agreed to. Two Native Bilh were retd a second time pro forma and refer r ed to the Native Affairs Commit'ee.
