Last night's burglaries included a visit to the house of a former Christchurch resident, Mrs Mackett, who was robbed of about _£l 00 worth of jew»l lery, including a number of heirlooms. Miss Sutcliffe, a visitor at the house, also lost all her jewellery. Mrs Mackett was visiting a neighbour, and her daughter and Miss Sutcliffe had gone to Church. In their absence the thieves bored a hole through a window, opened the catch and effected an entry. The house was ransacked from end to end. Everything in the shape of money and jewellery was taken, as well as a number of valuable papers.

The King visited the Dublin Corporation dwellings and afterwards, on his own impulse, went through several alleys in the slums, where he visited in 1885, when attending the Royal Commission on Dwellings.
