RAM FAIR,

The experiment of holding b second ram fair under the auspiceß of the nterbury Agricultural a.d Pastoral Association, says the 'Times ' cannot be considered a success. The fair was held at the request of breeders, who desired to take advantage of the demand from the North Island, but it was evidently too late for this purpose, the wants of the Northern buyers having been satisfied privately during the last few weeks. There was a good attendance at the fair at the Show Ground?, at but there were only two entatives of the North Island pre ent. There was very little demand for Eogli.h Leicesters, practically none on the part of the smaller f nterbury sheep farmers, the princip-1 buyers being Bt-tion owners who are in a position 1 to hold the rams until they require them later on. Those sold realised 2gß to 4gs. The few Southdowns offered fuiled to ohange hands at auction, bub twenty were sold privately a 6gs. A few lots of Shropshires made to 3,48. Ihe re was practically no demand for other breeds. __ "line of unregistered English Leicester flock rums w_B kuocktd down _t 10-, nod a line of unregistered Lincolna at lis 6d, which were not mutton prices. There was do demand for flock ewts, and only a few Stud rams found buyers. The sale waß, therefore, a mo-jt unsatisfactory one to all concerned. In addition to the lota reported, there were a number of lots placed privately at prices that were not disclosed. Messrs Field and Royds report having purchased for Nor'ih Isl-nd clreuta 40 one shear English Leicester rams from Mr T. Phillips, 20 two shear English Leicesters, and 20 Southdown from Mr J. C.
