ENGLAND v. CANTERBURY.
The long t_lked-of cricket match b.tween Lord Hawke's team and the C-nterbury eleven, commenced on Friday at Lancaster Park. There was fine weather a_d an attendance of between 5000 and 6000. The Englishmen won the to.j, nnd Canterbury bad to take the field. Burnip and Warner went to the wickets aud made no less thm 126 before they were suparated. T. 1. Taylor aUo bitted well, collaring the bowling and making 54. The bowling of C-lla-way and Frankish was good, especially that of the former who sent down maiden after m.iden. There were a few mistakes in the fielding, but as a whole it was up to expectations The innings closed for 352. Canterbury mad<- 224 in their first innings of which D. Keese made no less than 111, A. Sims, R. Htrange, and C. Boxshall, were the only others that reached j double figures. Thompsou'. bawling was j peculiarly deadly to our men. Following are the scores :— Lord Hawke's Team. C. J.
