Swimming —The races for Mr Milne's prizes took place at the Boating Club's shed yesterday afternoon. The race, for boys under 16 was won easily in fine style by Lewis' Penrose, with Ei Staples second and P. Brown third. Nine others started, but were nowhere at the finish. J. Walker won the race for boys under 12, W. Munro making a good second, With L. Grange very close behind him. Mr A. E. McGregor acted as starter. There waa a large attendance of the competitor' parents and schoolmates.

Transvaal.—President Kruger, referring to the anxieties expressed by Mr Chamberlain as to the state of affairs in the Transvaal, remarked "Let Mr Chamberlain state definitely that the promises made to the Uitlanders have not been kept. .President Kruger was very indignant when the statements in Mr Chamberlain's speech reached him, and exclaimed— " Let them come; they want to take the country." St Peters'.—A well attended meeting of ladies and gentlemen met at the Vestry on Wednesday evening to consider the question of reorganizingtheP&rochialAssocia'ion, with a view of supplementing the funds towards the Vicarage repairs. After considerable discussion it was considered advisable not to do so at present so as not to interfere with the direct and larger amounts that would be collected by Mr Henningi It was pointed out that in the report supplied to tbe Akaroa Mail there was a slight error which mentioned tbat the Vestry would collect with Mr Henning. The sentence should have been— ' Mr Henning kindly consented to collect in the town, for which the Vestry were very grateful.' It was finally unanimously resolved that the question of reorganizing the Parochial Association be postponed till Easter, and that another meeting would be held after the Vestry bad received the amount of promises and subscriptions from the collectors.
