8 Mr Blackmore, the Government porno,]• log-st, has been in Akaroa for the last n few days, making, suggestions with res ference to the extermination of the Codlin 6 moth. With this in view, he has applied n bandages to the trees in Mr "Van^ioii's c orchard, Aharo-, and that gentleman has > promised to collect the larvae at intervals 8 of a week nnd report on Banie, so that a result* can be arrived at. Anyone '/. desirous of clearing their trees of the v Codlin moth pest can visit Mr Vnne gioni"s orchard, and obtain full porti.cuw lars of the best method to pnrsup. As is] all aro aware, the Act providing for the ** I compulsory cleansing* of trees is now in y / force, but Mr Blackmore intends.to leave * the strict enforcement ot the law till c next season ; and in February intends to y inspect all the orchards and frnit gardens Lt on the Peninsula, however small, with a 1 view to ensure a comprehensive scheme g for the complete annihilation of the pest, t He will also endeavour to make, settlers c take a greater interest in fruit growing, 4 as a means of revenue ; and advises that ! a old trees, wbi*h spread blight and are c useless to owner?, should be cut down or n destroyed, as may ba best, at once. it ■ - ■
