OKAIN'S BAY SCHOOL.

At the late distribution of prizes, those for the sewing had not arrvied. Silver brooches- with the Christian names were ordered, and received by Daisy Gilford in JStnndarel V,, Mabel Moore iii Standard IV.,- Mary Wallace in KtandarJ 11., Maud Hart in Standard 1,., and Ruby Harris a silver thimble in Standard 111- A splendid silver malte*e cross, presented by Mr Lezard, of Ohristchurch', waft awarded to John SE. Harris as dux of the school. Mabel Moore pot first-class attendance certificate. The needle work was judged by Mesdan.es E. W. Harris and C Brown, and Miss Thacker, who expressed themselves as wonderfully well pleased with the work shown. -

On Thursday afternoon a deputation consisting of Uev. E. N. Blakifiton ami Messrs E, W. Harris and J. J James, represeatingsubscribers, Waited on Mr and Mrs Walker ani presented them with a hendsonie silver craet, in recognition of the valuable services rendered ithe district. Mr James expressed his sincere regret at their leaving the district and felt they would be greatly missed in. the many ways in which they had been pleased to help. Mr Harris followed with expressions of '.raeret like;the first speuker at the loss of Mr and Mrs Walker and felt that their places would not easily be filled in church, school brother positions. Rev. E;N Blakiston felt great pleasure in making the presentation. Personally he would miss the recipiens greatly, especially in the church and Ssbbath school, where they had been, of great halp to him, and fee knew the services bad been cheerfully given from a love for the work, and was sure they would not lose their reward. He hoped the present would not be looked upon as an equivalent for all they had done, but hoped it would be looked upon by Mr and Mrs Walker as a reminder of the good teelings and and wishes of the subscribers. . .

Mr Walker briefly replied, and said be felt that it was difficult for him to adequately respond to the kindly senti ments expressed., His feelings were each he coald only thank them, and aßsured them that the kmdly words spoken would not, soon be forgotten. He wae pleased that the present was such as would keep friends always in Hβ aßedred them that whatever little Mrs Walker and he had done was donetn ijo way for recompense..

It was intended to have bad a social gathering, but the roads were so bud and tbe nights bo dark that it was thought better to make the-presentation at the house, Mr and Mrs Walker have a)sr> received several nice preseritafrom .pupi s in the day school. They severed their connection with the school on Friday Usi ,en4-:the chnrch on Sunday last, B.ft>f a residence of yeurs, and have ieft for town.
