Mr Potte moved the raotice. of motion standing in his name, •* That the Convmtttee is of opinion that'home lessons, be discontinued, or at least very much curtailed." Mr Potts read opinions, of •experts and medical men on the matter, and also opinions he tv.d received from schoolmasters on the subject. The home-work given tcok two hours to do faithfully and well, and this, added to the ordinary werk, was too hard on the children. Mr Potts produced the homework given in the various ptandards. The Chairman said the question ot dmap awny with borne lessons for the Ist, 2nd and 3rd standards had been brought before the Board of Education, and the matter adjourned till those influential mpmbers at present in Parliament had returned. The Committee was much obli ed for the very lucid and exhaustive manner in vvhich Mr Potts had brought the matter forward ; but be considered the matter should be left over till the Board had come to some decision
