At the meeting of the Edivationjil J Board held here to-day it was resolved to plant mairocarpa at Liitlo Akaioa school ; also decided to bear half cost of renewing hearths of German Bay school Dtjnkdin, July 14. George McGirr was charged with stabbing Samuel Gallon at Middlemarch. It transpires that the affair arose at a wedding festival, whereat McGirr atrl Callon, acting as Master of the Ceremonies, went out of the house together to get a drink when McGirr at once attacked the latter. The wounds are not so dangerous as was at first anticipated. Mblbournk, July 13. A farmer named Cornwell died mysteriously at Warracknabeal recently, and arsenic having been found in his body, his paramour, Annie O'Brien, and a man named Pratt have been arrested on buspicion of causing his death. New York, July 13 The Press states that the Union miners in Idaho scut a car loaded with gunpowder down a sharp incline against the walls of the works causing an explosion which destroyed all the nouunionists. The f erpetrators have yielded to the militia, and Federal troops have been despatched to the scene to assist in maintaining order. The troops have made a peaceful occupation of Carnegies , works. Paris, July 13, Madame Reymond fired at Madame Lassimonne, who was in bed, and killed her. A balloon with three persons in the cage ascended from Havre. Three days later it descended at Devizes, in England. The cage was then empty and the balloon covered with snow. Bkrnk, Julr 13. A portion of the Bionnay Glacier fell and diverted the flood water. It destroyed the St. Gervais bath houses, which were full of sleeping tourists. It is feared that the death list will reach two hundred. London, July 13. In the Edinburgh election, Mr Gladstone polled 5750, and his opponent (Mr Weenchop) 5077. Mr Gladstone won eleven seats to-day. Mr Dibbs addressed a numerous audience to-day, chiefly in defence of colonial finance. He insisted that a syndicate would purchase the New South Wales railways to-morrow at the price of the colo.iial debt if the Government were willing to sell. A coroner's jury returned a verdict of " wilful murder " against a man named Neill in custody on a charge of poisoning a number of girls in Lambeth.
