POLITICAL.

[By Telegraph.]

[Fbomour own Correspondent.]

Wellington, July 14

The House spends many of its afternoons in letting off political steam. The Opposition to-day attempted to draw the Government on a question affecting the taxation of the English debenture holders. Nearly two hours were spent over a motion for an adjournment, and in the discussion several points of order were raised, and a few of the members had to withdraw expressions which were not " parliamentary." Mr Wright's Fisheries Conservation Bill, which had passed its second reading on Wednesday evening, was referred to the Joint Bills Committee, who reported that it was a Local Bill. lam informed that the requisite notice will be given, and the Bill will come up for its third reading in a month's time. A couple of Local Bills, Wanganui Hospital and Wellington City Sanitation Bill got through their second readings this afternoon, but the Waipawa Hospital Bill met with a less fortunate fate. The dinner adjournment was reached before the Speaker could put the motion for its passage onward.
