LITTLE RIVER.
WAIREWA. BOATING CLUB.
The roll number of this Club is over 40. The Committee has recently had c boat house erected on the banks of the rivor, near the Main Road. Messrs Coop and Montgomery kindly gave the materials for the building, and the work was performed by other active members of the Club. A concert in aid of the members of the Club will be held in the Maori Hall on the 12th of Jnly. The programme is a very attractive one, and includes recitations, duets, songs, and interesting plays, to conclude with an amusing farce by Messrs Sands, Bellmer, Bean and others- After the concert a ball will take place. SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of this Committee was held in the schoolroom on Friday evening, July Ist. Present —Messrs Sefton (Chairman), Meyers, Foley, Radford, G. Reynolds and Hi Thomas. Correspondence was read from the Education Board to the effect that the Board would allow Miss Ansley a month's leave ot absence, also stating that the repairs to the roof of the schoolhouse being a small matter, the Committee should attend to it out of its incidental funds. From the Head Master, on behalf of the staff, thanking the Committee for their written congratulations re the success of the school at the recent examination, From Miss Wallace, mistress of the Side School, thanking the Committee for their letter with reference to the Inspector's report, and expressing a hope to continue to give satisfaci tion. It was decided that the Side School be closed tor the winter holidays, and that the Committee would undertake to repair the roof of the school if the Board would provide special funds for the work. The statement of accounts of the Main and Side School treats were read and unanimonsly adopted. The balance sheets showed a credit balance as follows : — Main school 9s 7d, Side school 5s 4d. Hearty votes of thanks were passed to the judges of the children's needlework, H. and Miss A. Buchanan, to Mrs Sefton and Miss Eva Reynolds for assistance rendered at the Main school treat, and also to Mr and Mrs Meyers, Miss Wallace, Miss Phillips, and other ladies who assisted at the Side school treat. LAKE FORSYTH. This lake is higher now than it has been for the past three years. An old fashioned southerly buster would send the water over the main road. The lake is now on a level with the race-course. A CHEAPER LOAF. One of our local butchers, Mr W. Davidson, has commenced selling bread, and has lowered the price one penny per loaf. Mr Davidson has made arrangements for a supply from Christchurch until his oven is completed.
