Wellington, July 4
Toe Financial Statement seems to have given general satisfaction to most persons here, inside and out of the House, before the Treasurer enunciated his self-reliant and non-borrowing proposals. The present session bids fair to be lengthy, and general debts interspersed with acriminous discussion on party questions, A dissolution was anticipated. Now the Government are safe in their seats until October 1893. The debate on the Financial Statement will not commence before Friday. The Electoral Bill will come up for commitnl to-morrow night, when Mr Fish will speak at length about the franchise to women. This will be the first Bill to be sent up for the consideration of the Lords, and upon the issue thereof will depend the action of the Government when they will nominate new members to the Upper House. The new Land Bill may contain provisions for the election of member to the various land boards in substitution of the present nominated system. The Public Works estimates will provide for the necessary want of a courthouse at Little River as asked for by your member last week.
