SPORTING.

TROTTING NEWS. FIXTURE. June 9—Ashburtou R.C. Cardinal Logan relished in the going at the Auckland Trotting Club's meeting and he paced splendid races on both days of the meeting. Hendricksen has him looking very well. , Vesuvius was unlucky in not striking a dry track as he looked certain to distinguish himself at the Auckland meeting. He will, however, repeal his defeat when the ground is reasonably firm. Dalmeny's turn and probably more turns come at this time of the year and lie was produeed in capital nick to race on a track which suited him at Auckland. He is always one to remember. Derby Lynn, a double-winner at the Auckland Trotting Club's recent meeting is a promising sort who is sure to win another stake very soon. He is trained by W. Hughes who is also associated with Loch Moigh. Young Blake never looked better than he does at present and ho should have a lot to say at Christchurch in August. Evelyn Locanda is showing better form in her recent outings and it will be a surprise if she docs not soon finish at the top end of a race. Muriel de Oro is said to have not had a chance yet. Linkman is a good one. - RACING NEWS. King Balboa won as he liked at Timaru and the state of the track he apparently did not dislike. He has come forward a good deal lately and his owner should again experience the pleasure of seeing him first past the decision post. Malmsey was beaten at Timaru more by the soft going than anything else and may justify that at Ashburton on Saturday. Blaek Duke has been returned to good form and it should always be one in his favour when next seen out. Narrative will prove herself over a distance. She galloped very encouragingly at the South Canterbury fixture.

Bonrose has won her races with comfort lately and she is going to be more than ordinary. She is a three-year-old by Boniform—Port Pourri.

Great Star's defeat on the final day of the meeting at Wingatui should be no disgrace to him as he ran a great race to finish third under 10.13. Those who finished behind him cannot be highly thought of and for Great Star to finish in front of all but two, must be considered a great effort as he had had two solid races on the previous days.

Circulation registered third place in all her outings at Wingatui, and although it was only the minor part of the race whieh she filled it was far better form to that which she has been showing. If her tendency to pull could be curbed it would make a different mare of her.
