GOLF.

A flag match was played on the local links on Saturday.. The afternqon, though fine, was not as good as the l weather of the previous three Saturdays. There were, however, very few golf devotees absent and an interesting competition over nine holes was played. It was the first occasion on which the flag match had been played on the local links. The first pair carried a flag and when the bogey for the nine holes (plus half the medal handi-, cap of each player) had been played the flag was placed on the spot where the ball finished. In the men's section Mr Y. Fcnwick carried the flag to his drive from the tenth hole. It was' then picked up by Mr J. Duncan and taken a little nearer the green on the same hole. Mr J. Watt took it almost to the green and Mr A. Stewart, who I won the competition, w&s only Bft from the pin on the tenth green when 'his-strokes expired. The performance of the winner of the ladies' section was even better. Mrs L, Byan carried the flag to the cup on the twelfth green—a very good performance for a long handicap player. Arrangements are on foot to play an I all-day tournament with the Koxburgh Golf Club on the local links on June 13.

On Saturday, June 1, the second rounds of the Cuthbcrtson Cup and Kose Bowl will be played. On Saturday, June 8, a team from Cromwell will meet-the local golfers on the Alexandra golf links.
