BECKS NOTES.

Becks lias been experiencing some very heavy frosts lately, and the apples that have been left ou the. trees, in the few orchards around, have been badly frosted; but this is Jack Frost's own season, and he usually compensates us with sunny days; no complaints are to be heard. Quail are fairly numerous on the surrounding hills and offer some good shooting for enthusiasts. The reason given for the nasty accident in which Mr Pauley, sen., was injured is that a very heavy fog had settled in the vicinity of Mr T. Mec's property. Xo w doubt the fog was to blame in this instances, but some of the 'corrugations on our Mauiototo roads arc bad enough to cause even worse accidents. Mr and Mrs Mudie, of Tahatika, on a recent visit through Southland and Central Otago, stated that the roads in the Maniototo County were the worst they had passed over. Hockey, golf and football are again] in full swing and this year Becks has both an A and B grade football team. The B giSde played a -home -match' against Banfurly on Saturday and put up a very determined fight. Their luck was out and after a very even game Banfurly won by 6 points to 3. The " A team played Ida Valley and secured a win of 20 points to nil. - ' Mr J. Ryan is back in the Lauder 1 Hotel and wishes the public to know r that it will be carried on in the same i able manner as Mr Purton has done ifffi the last three years.
