THE HERALD. WEDNESDAY, DEC. 15, 1920 ALLOCATION OF WAR TROPHY.

In the allocation of war trophies Naseby is allotted a held gun and Ranfurly a machine gun. Alexandra and Clyde have not been allotted anything so far. The position is that the Vincent County Council have been given a field gun to allot to either Alexandra or Clyde, the com- ■ mitten expressing the opinion that this war trophy should go to Alexandra but leaving the final decision with the county council. Naturally the county council will decide in favour of Clyde, it being the county town. That will leave Alexandra without, a field gun. If Naseby and Cromwell can be granted war trophies direct by the War Trophies disposal committee, without leaving it to the decision of the county council, why not Alexandra I The position js quite illogical, and while the Vincent County Council arc making representations to have two field guns allotted, so that Alexandra and Clyde can get one each, the borough council should also move in the matter and insist that a field gun be allotted to Alexandra on its own right without reference to any other public body. The mayor has already made several representations on the matter, extending over a period of throe ycais but complains that he can get no reply whatever to his communications. This is quite unsatisfactory. Alexandra is third largest town in the North Otago Military area, also headquarters of the Central Otago Military district and it is quite ridiculous to leave its chance of receiving this war trophy to another public body which would be in no way blameworthy in- appreciating the claim of its own county town before that of a borough in which it was in no way particularly interested.
