Saturday night's programme to be screened at Hull's Pictures includes'a good comic of over 1000, feet titled ‘ His **"i |lu Lives.’ The star picture is another featuring June Elvidge in the ‘ Appearance of Evil ’ a World Urania of about lour and a half thousand feet. The story follows along the usual lines of the conduct of two lovers being misunderstood and the action of busy bodies being the cause of much needless sorrow. Appearances are often misleading, and were never more so as iu this particular story. However the working out of the plot is entirely satisfactory and ends happily. Superb dresses are a very attractive feature of this drama. Another chapter of the new serial ‘ The* Man of Might ’ will be screened. There was 'a Jarge attendance of the public at the ceremony held in the Earnscleugh School on Sunday last to witness the unveiling of the tablet erected to the memory of local fallen soldiers. The tablet, which is a handsome one of brass, contains seven names—W. Hawley, •f. Jeffery, A. lunnaird, J. M’GinnifcJ.V. Weaver, D.C.M., W. Smith an'Jß." Millar. The Rev. J. The Alex - andra Brass Baud was iu/atteudauce and accompanied the hymns.- The audience not only filled the schoolroom but made up quite a largo congregation outside. The windows of the schoolroom were left open so that all, inside or outside, could participate in the memorial : service. The increased cost of all building materials raises the important question of the amount of cover for insurance against loss by lire on all kinds' of building property. Properties which were adequately covered by a certain'amount five years ago are now quite under insured and iu the event of a fire the [owner would bo a considerable loser. Recently a local body found itself faced with an expenditure of £13,000, as the result of a fire, against which its only asset was insurance policies totalling £3,500. Public bodies as well as private individuals would do well to be fully protected. “ There is an idea prevailing here regarding the decay of the Old Country,” said Sir Thomas Mackenzie in a recent speech. “ There is no decay in the Old Country. (Applause.) It is more virile now than it has ever been. There 'are fewer people wasting there time" iu profligacy, and it is felt that a man must justify his existence, no matter what calling ho may follow. That feeling i» provading the whole of the people of the Old Country. If we can only get our men to settle down on coramonsense lines, the nation can and will continue to oecupy her position at the head of the nations of the world.” The annual Eire Brigade Demonstration is to be held this year at Napier from about 2fith February to sth March.
