SHOOTER FOUND DEAD NEAR OHAI
EMPLOYEE OF MINES DEPARTMENT (P.A. INVERCARGILL, Nov. 22. Gordon Weir, aged 2G, an employee i of the Mines Department, whose home was at Kaitangata, was found dead with a bullet wound in his head, about two miles from Ohai, this morning. Mr Weir, who had been staying at the Ohai miners’ hostel, went on a shooting expedition in the Wairaki Valley last night. When he did not return his workmates became anxious and organised a search party. Early this morning the men found the body not far from where Mr Weir’s car was parked. It is thought that when Mr Weir was vaulting or climbing through a fence, his .22 rifle was accidentally discharged. ELDERLY WOMAN FOUND DEAD IN RIVER (P.A.) GISBORNE, Nov. 22. The body of Mrs Lillian Olive Richardson, aged 73, a widqw, of 15G Stout Street, was found in the Taruheru River this morning. Mrs Richardson, who lived with her daughter, was reported missing from her home this morning. WOMAN SEVERELY INJURED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 22. When she was knocked over by a car at the corner of John Street, Riddiford Street, and Adelaide Road tonight, Mrs M. Bayliss, of 2 Hutchison Road, Wellington, was extensively injured. She broke her right leg, a wrist, and her nose, and suffered abrasions to her head and body, and shock. She was taken to the Wellington Public Hospital by an ambulance.
